The fifth Irish Community of Practice took place on 6th June 2024.  This was before the first international CoP and the participants were keen to have things prepared in advance of the international CoP.

The participants looked at the impact of participation in the AdAPPtive project and its CoPs contribute to the teachers’ continuing professional development (CPD).  They also reflected on what CPD elements of the project could be improved upon.  This included other topics/skills that might be addressed and  how might CPD be addressed more effectively.  In general, the feedback on this was very positive and the teachers appreciated the opportunity to be part of the AdAPPtive project.

The participants also considered how participation in AdAPPtive project activities affected pupil engagement with reading apps and instruction.  They also discussed how participation in the  AdAPPtive project activities benefited pupils, in terms of their general reading competencies, attitudes (including motivation) and engagement.  Again, the feedback was positive, although the challenges of using digital apps were also discussed.

The participants are looking forward to the first international CoP and interested to meet other teachers on the project and share their experiences with them.
